1 Updates to Y2 SATs New 2016

2 New curriculum, new standards, new tests Extensive changes Previous tasks and tests replaced by new set of tests. New test include - A grammar, punctuation and spelling test. - An arithmetic paper No set days, taken in May, play a key part in teacher assessment

3 Key changes - Reading English reading – 2 papers - one with text and questions combined. - one with more challenging text and questions in a separate booklet. All children to take both tests. Not strictly timed but will take around 30 minutes. More emphasis on comprehension.

4 Reading – types of questions The texts will cover a range of fiction, non- fiction and poetry and will get progressively harder. Multiple choice Ranking/ordering – Number the events to show the order they appear in the story Labelling - Label the text to show the title Find and copy eg find and copy a word which shows what the weather was like in the story.

5 Reading – types of question Short answer eg What does the bear eat? Open-ended eg ‘Why does Lucy write the letter to her grandmother? Give two reasons

6 Key changes – SPAG 2 papers: Grammar, vocabulary and punctuation test (2 sections around 10 minutes each) Spelling test Emphasis on technical aspects of grammar No English writing test

17 Scaled scores Used for reporting national curriculum test outcomes. Helps test results to be reported consistently and maintain meaning over time – 2 pupils achieving the same scaled scores in different years will have same attainment. National standard will be 100 The raw score that equates to 100 might be different each year.
