Diapers LaKendra Parks

Newborn infants depend on their caregivers to feed, dress, and tend to their every need. This includes changing their DIAPERS.

How many diapers does a newborn infant use per day? A. 5 B. 20 C. 10 D. 30

The answer is a baby may use 10 or more diapers a day.

Brief History of Diapers The word diaper originally referred to the type of cloth rather than its use. In the 19 th century cloth diapers were being used and mass produced they were made of a cotton material and held in place with a safety pin. By the 20 th century innovations in diapers included the introduction of disposable diapers and refastenable fasteners as well as superabsorbent liners.

Changing Diapers Is important to change an infants diaper regularly to avoid diaper rash and irritation. It is also important to clean the lower back and skin folds in the thigh area. When changing a baby girl it is important to wipe from front to back to lower the risk of infection.

Choose Your Partner and Baby and Lets Get Ready to Change Diapers!

Step 1 – Lay a fresh diaper on a changing table, or on a towel or mat on the floor. Step 2 – Place your baby, tummy side up, on top of the clean diaper. Step 3 – Unfasten the diaper tabs on the soiled diaper.

Step 4 – Hold your baby's feet together and very gently lift them up, raising the baby's bottom. Use the clean part of the diaper to wipe away any excess stools, then fold over the soiled section of the diaper and set the old diaper aside. Step 5 – Wipe your baby's buttocks and genitals gently from front to back with baby wipes. Don't forget the lower back and the skin folds of the thighs. (A baby girl might get stools around her labia and vagina, so clean that area gently with baby wipes.) Step 6 – Lower your baby's bottom onto the clean diaper. Step7 – Pat the area dry with a towel; cornstarch powder is optional.

Step 8 – Apply diaper-rash cream to the area if necessary. Step 9 – Make sure to pull up the back of the clean diaper high enough to prevent leaks. Position the front of the diaper just under the baby's abdomen. Step 10 – Bring the tabs around from the back of the diaper and fasten them to the front. Wash Your hands to prevent contamination or making your baby ill.
