4 © 2002-2003 Six Sigma Academy3 Lessons Learned BB Survival Guide 1 st Project Talk to your Process Owner from Day 1 – No Surprises Plan out the 3 weeks between training to the day – plan Trust your team to continue working while you are in class Get a small cross-functional team, it is ok to have a devils advocate on team Use resources wisely, including Black Belts already through training Bounce ideas off other Black Belts; there is no competition among Black Belts Reach out to the subject matter experts Plan your surveys to make sure you are asking the right questions… only get 1 chance

5 © 2002-2003 Six Sigma Academy4 Lessons Learned BB Survival Guide 1 st Project Update project tracking database each week Learn everything you can about Minitab… call their 800 number, use the website Everyone’s project will be different, use the tools that are appropriate for your project This is one project of 12…learn all you can from your project and your classmates Projects are like roller coasters… lots of ups and downs Selling your solution is as much a part of the project as the collecting data… some people faced with the facts will not see the same solution… work the solution from all aspects

Best in Class: The company says no… the leadership is willing to say we made a mistake in chartering that project and is willing to cancel it – completely. All company resources can be mapped to the CTQ flowdown – Those that cannot are reassigned to the most important issues in the company.

Best in Class: The best in class recognize that reward and recognition has a financial and non-financial component. There is a differentiation between those people who when held accountable – deliver, and those that do not.
