Many Europeans began questioning the idea of Divine right rule
A Strict Class System was enforced
A belief in heavenly reward for earthly suffering

Government Officials and church authorities felt order was being challenged and they restricted ideas and information.
From your reading who and what did they ban?
Salons were places of discussions where small groups gathered to exchange Enlightenment ideas. Many of these philosophers gained fame by providing these forums.

Frederick the Great – King of Prussia from
Firm Leader, helped promote common good for those under his rule
Applied some ideas of the Enlightenment but mainly to his advantage
Catherine (II) the Great
-Made minor changes to Russia
Created a nobles charter
Joseph II – Peasant Emperor
Dressed up as an a peasant to see what his people lived like.
