Using a sample of Beryllium bombarded with alpha particles caused it to emit mysterious radiation in using magnetic field, which bounced off wax and were sent to a detecting chamber in which he later discovered the radiations were neutral. He discovered the charges were neutral when radiation that was released hit wax and was sent into a detecting chamber. This detected the neutral charges that were given off.

In 1932 Chadwick discovered neutrons A neutron is the neutral charged particles in an atom found in the nucleus. Mass nearly 1,840 times of an electron. Neutron consist of 3 quarks like other protons - A quark is a particle which is only found in other particles Neutrons are important in forming a chain reaction in nuclear fission, as used in nuclear reactors and atom bombs.
