8. Notes The Sheltons/Allens are my Mother’s family. The Davis’ are my Father’s family. Both my great-great-great grandfathers were Confederate soldiers. Shelton served in the 30 th Virginia Infantry. Davis served in the 27 th North Carolina Infantry. Davis surrendered with the Army of Northern Virginia on April 9 th, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse. Prior to my parents’ generation, none of the members of my family attended college. The main profession through both sides of my family was farming.
