Boppin Body Systems Biology

Cornell Notes Topic:Details: Body SystemsSystems in the body How do they all work together? that are responsible for specific functions Summary: Summarize the main ideas

Body Systems Systems in the body that are responsible for specific functions (i.e. Circulatory System)

Circulatory System Transports gases, nutrients, and waste throughout the body!

Respiratory System Gas Exchange –Oxygen (O 2 ) in –Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) out

Digestive System Breaks down food, releases energy, rids the body of waste from food

Excretory System Filters metabolic waste from the blood, stores and releases waste

Skeletal System Provides structure, support, and protection

Muscular System Allows movement and provides support Three different types –Cardiac (i.e. heart) –Skeletal (i.e. biceps) –Smooth (i.e. stomach lining)

Nervous System Responds to the environment

Integumentary System (your skin) Provides protection from the environment (i.e. skin blocks UV rays) Regulates the body temperature THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE

Immune System Primary defense against foreign substances –Bacteria –Viruses –Fungi –Parasites

Endocrine System Produces hormones that regulate the metabolic function of all cells –Cholesterol –Testosterone –Estrogen

Reproductive System Allows the continuation of the species Produces sex cells Passes traits (genes) down to the next generation

Summarize your thoughts… On the bottom of your notes, summarize what you learned today about body systems.

Animal Group Characteristics Biology

Annelids Segmented bodies No skeleton

Arthropods Segmented bodies (usually 3 bodies) Jointed appendages Exoskeleton

Mammals Hair Nourish young with milk Endoskeleton

Summarize your thoughts… On the bottom of your notes, summarize what you learned today about animal group characteristics.
