1 L1-2 Notes: Divisibility Patterns
Chapter 1 L1-2 Notes: Divisibility Patterns

2 Vocabulary A whole number is divisible by another number if the remainder is 0. A whole number is even if it is divisible by 2. Ex. 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, A whole number is odd if it is not divisible by 2. Ex. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

3 Divisibility Rules (2, 3, 5, 10) Rule A whole number is divisible by:
Examples 2 if the ones digit is divisible by 2. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10,… 3 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3. 6, 18, 24, 30,… 5 if the ones digit is 0 or 5. 5, 10, 15, 20,… 10 if the ones digit is 0. 10, 20, 30, 40,…

4 Example 1 Tell whether 2,320 is divisible by 2, 3, 5, or 10. Then classify the number as even or odd.

5 Example 2 COUNTY FAIRS The number of tickets needed to ride certain rides at a county fair is shown. If Alicia has 51 tickets, can she use all of the tickets by riding only the Ferris wheel?

6 Divisibility Rules (4, 6, 9) Rule A whole number is divisible by:
Examples 4 if the number formed by the last two digits is divisible by 4. 104, 112, 124,… 6 if the number is divisible by both 2 and 3. 18, 24, 30, 36,… 9 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9. 18, 27, 36, 45,…

7 Example 3 Tell whether 564 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, or 10, then classify the number as even or odd.
