Delayed gratification: the willingness to give up something you want now in order to get something better in the future Example: ▪ Waiting to see a movie until it’s out on video rather than going to the theater Opportunity Cost: a trade off; the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen over another Example: ▪ Give up buying a soda and snack everyday so you can save up to buy iPod in two months

Specific Measurable Attainable Results-oriented Time-bound Example: I will save $400 for my trip to New York in August 2014 by saving $50 per paycheck (paid bi-weekly) for the next 4 months.
