Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education WORKING WITH THE LAYERS PANEL To duplicate a layer, click the layer listing, then either drag it over the New Layer button or press Command+J/Ctrl+J To make a layer semitransparent, lower its Opacity value Use the blending mode menu to change color blending between a selected layer and underlying layers

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education APPLY A SMART FILTER Right-click a layer, and choose Convert for Smart Filters The layer becomes a Smart Object Apply a filter via one of the submenus in the Filter menu To change the filter settings at any time, double-click the filter listing under the Smart Object The filter dialog box reopens Click the visibility icon for a filter on the Layers panel to hide/show the filter effect

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education ADD A LAYER MASK Select a layer Optional: Create a selection Click the Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of the Layers panel If there was an active selection, pixels that were outside the selection area will be hidden by the layer mask The Masks pane and layer mask settings will display on the Properties panel

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education SCALE LAYER CONTENT Click a layer (not the background) Choose the Move tool, and check Show Transform Controls on the Options bar OR Choose Edit > Free Transform (Command+T/Ctrl+T) Drag a corner or side handle to scale the layer (Shift-drag for proportional scaling) Double-click inside the bounding box to accept the transformation or press Esc to cancel the change

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education ENLARGE THE CANVAS SIZE Choose Image > Canvas Size In the Canvas Size dialog box, enter new Width and/or Height values The values are independent of each other Click a square or arrow to reposition the black dot (the existing area) relative to where the new canvas area will be added From the Canvas Extension Color menu, choose a color for the canvas addition

Copyright © 2013 MyGraphicsLab / Pearson Education ISOLATE LAYER IMAGERY VIA REFINE EDGE Via the Layers panel, stack the image layer that you want to isolate so it’s above the intended background layer Choose a selection tool, make a loose selection of the image to be isolated, then click Refine Edge on the Options bar
