2. —In the 1400’s, sailors from Europe started to look for new trade routes to the Far East, hoping to get rich. Over the next 300 years, most of the world was visited and mapped by European explorers. This time in history is called the “Age of Exploration,” or the “Age of Discovery.”

Step 1: Colonies send raw materials back to the mother country
Step 2: The raw materials are turned into manufactured goods
Step 3: The manufactured goods are sold back to the colonies at a much higher price

The Old World is another name for the Eastern Hemisphere (Europe, Asia, and Africa).
