5. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi FACULTY RESEARCH With its prominent faculty, Koç University is one of the leading research institutions in Turkey. Koç University’s faculty attracts an enriching combination of Turkey’s most established senior researchers and recent PhD’s from top research institutions worldwide.  Almost all full-time professors have doctoral degrees, 95% of which are from leading universities in the United States and Europe. The remaining 5% are recruited from top Turkish universities.  11 of the 80 members of the Turkish Academy of Sciences are Koç University Faculty.  Koç University's junior faculty members were awarded 25 of the 219 Outstanding Young Scholar Awards presented by the Turkish Academy of Sciences in the last ten years.  Many of the faculty members are also the recipients of the Science and Junior Science awards of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, the most prestigious scientific awards in the country.  Many research projects at Koç University are supported by The European Research Council and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.

Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi Koç University’s main campus was completed in 2000 and consists of sixty buildings: academic colleges, administrative offices, laboratories, library, social and sports facilities, student dormitories and faculty residences. All main campus buildings are located on a sprawling 62-acre estate. Drawing upon warm and natural materials, the architecture is a blend of the historical style of İstanbul and the timeless characteristics of well-established academic institutions. Koç University dormitories have a capacity of 2,334 students, and the campus includes 102 apartments constructed for faculty housing. The classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest technological infrastructure and support systems. Additionally, excellent athletic and recreational facilities are available to all members of the Koç University family. Koç University recently completed the construction of a new residential complex in the West Campus that accommodates 900 students. This site is 1.5 miles from the main campus and includes dining halls, recreational areas and sports facilities.

7. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi OFF-SITE CAMPUS FACILITIES Nişantaşı Campus is the downtown campus of Koç University and houses the School of Nursing. Its location is adjacent to the VKV American Hospital. This campus provides residential and dining facilities, conference halls, classrooms, group study rooms as well as a library and a fitness center,. Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (RCAC) is located in downtown Beyoğlu and currently houses 10 pre-doctoral and 10 post- doctoral fellows from around the world. These students focus their academic pursuits on the study of civilizations that flourished in modern Turkey. The facility has two specialized libraries, residential and dining facilities, conference rooms and exhibition halls. İstinye Campus is the old campus, where Koç University started in 1993. It is located near the business and financial districts. It serves part-time students in executive education programs, the executive MBA program, and the Master’s degree program in Finance. In the future, this center will offer evening and weekend courses in such programs as Master’s of Law. The İstinye campus offers residential facilities, conference halls, classrooms and group study rooms.

9. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi A LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION Koç University considers a liberal arts education to be imperative. Accordingly, the institution’s guiding principles and course design reflect a progressive, expansive, and student- oriented approach to education, the culmination of which is the formation of high-caliber graduates—individuals who are prepared to succeed in a multitude of competitive environments. Guided by the educational philosophy of “creative teaching/participatory learning,” Koç University encourages the search for truth and promotes creativity—it demands an inquiring mind, an acuity for open discussion, and involvement in extra-curricular activities. All of the four-year Bachelor of Arts and Sciences programs have the same course structure: a common core set of classes that are mandatory for all students, area-specific instruction, and elective courses. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES & ECONOMICS The College of Administrative Sciences and Economics (CASE) prepares young men and women for professions immersed in the global milieu. To succeed in an international context, CASE regards the following as essential components of its academic design: an understanding of (1) the increased importance of productivity; (2) participatory decision-making; (3) sophisticated political, economic and financial analyses; (4) management of newly evolving technologies; (5) heightened competition; and (6) expanding opportunities for cooperation across geographic and national boundaries. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES & HUMANITIES The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) cultivates professionals who comprehend the methodologies and expertise within their respective fields. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi COLLEGE OF SCIENCES The College of Sciences (CS) simultaneously educates students on the basic natural sciences and engenders a disposition for the scientific approach, analytical thinking, and a critical problem-solving perspective. The mission of CS is to mold students into intellectually curious, creative and critical thinkers who are prepared for optimal accomplishment in the professional realm. Toward this end, the college emboldens students as they mature into highly capable, self-confident young adults. Students emerge from the program with an appreciation for learning and achievement and a sense of social and ethical responsibility. In addition to teaching many of the “Common Core Program” courses mandatory for all students, CS offers high-caliber degree programs in the natural sciences. Many of the undergraduates pursue graduate studies in some of the best universities in North America and Europe, mostly with scholarships, while others excel in an array of professional environments.

Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING The College of Engineering (CE) prepares future leaders in engineering who can successfully practice and excel in their professions at national and international levels. CE’s mission is to provide innovative teaching and research programs that cultivate creative engineers adept in acquiring, synthesizing, and applying interdisciplinary scientific knowledge. The education provided by CE arms students with the skills to expand the technological foundations of their professions, to better serve the needs of society, and to improve the quality of life in general. To better appreciate their future roles in society, CE studentsare educated in the social, economic, and political aspects of the engineer’s world. Along with classes in mathematics and basic sciences, engineering area courses provide the in-depth coverage necessary to produce a well-rounded, yet focused, education. Students’ access to elective courses, independently designed studies and experimental projects contribute to the formation of a holistic perspective on the engineering trade. By studying multidisciplinary applications and emerging non-traditional industries that seek new engineering paradigms, students inevitably mature into innovators and natural collaborators. New information technology and computer-aided teaching tools are used throughout the engineering curriculum to improve delivery and enhance learning.

14. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi SCHOOL OF LAW The School of Law actively engages in and responds to Turkey’s rapidly developing economy and international relations. With the involvement of new-generation business people in international commerce and with the proliferation of large-scale enterprises, the cultivation of consulting lawyers who also have a working knowledge of the laws of other countries has become an integral part of the School of Law’s academic design. In addition to endowing young men and women with the theoretical and practical knowledge of Turkish law, Koç University’s School of Law has the aim of preparing its students to meet the needs of the global environment in professional settings. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Driven by an aspiration to introduce new and different concepts into the Turkish medical education system, Koç University has founded its School of Medicine, intended to open its doors to students in the 2010/2011 academic year. The mission of the School of Medicine is to;  Educate future leaders in medicine who are scientifically-oriented with highest professional and ethical standards and outstanding skills in prevention and treatment of diseases, yet at the same time compassionate and committed to continuous learning & growth  Conduct outstanding research with worldwide impact in several sub-disciplines  Provide exemplary medical care to broad range of patients in its teaching hospital dedicated to research and education The School of Medicine offers the best medical applications as well as the highest quality basic and clinical research. The School of Medicine accepts 40 students per year with 50% full and 50% partial scholarships. The school offers an innovative curriculum introducing North American standards in medical research and education with uncompromising use of English. Delivery of fundamentals is required in the first year within the liberal arts core program. Students are involved in research as early as in the 2nd year. Molecular fundamentals of diseases are emphasized in forth and fifth year clinical courses.

16. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi SCHOOL OF NURSING Koç University offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The School of Nursing is located in Nişantası, adjacent to the American Hospital. The curriculum emphasizes the nursing process, problem- based learning, and integration of theoretical and clinical studies. Special attention is placed on the clinical practice of nursing and proficiency in the English language. The undergraduate program combines a rigorous academic curriculum with more than 1000 hours of intensive clinical practice and more than 400 contact hours of English instruction. Students complete their clinical intensives at the American Hospital, as well as other government, social security, and university hospitals and clinics in the İstanbul region. The language of instruction is Turkish.

20. Koç Üniversitesi – Mühendislik Fakültesi SPORTS AND RECREATION Semahat Arsel Spots Center is a multi-purpose indoor facility with a capacity of 2000 spectators. The Sports Center houses a 1500 m 2 main hall, which is used for basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton and handball. Additionally, the center has squash and racquetball courts, a two-floor fitness center, an aerobics step studio, a jogging track of 156 meters, and custom-tailored training programs for students eager to pursue their personal fitness goals under trained supervision. Koç University also provides outdoor facilities, including an olympic-size soccer field, a swimming pool (12.5mx25m), an ice skating rink (20mx40m), tennis courts and a basketball court. Many competitive team sports, individual sports and sports events are offered to students at Koç University.
