ATLAS overview M. Raymond - 02 Octobre 2015ATLAS infrastructure activities during YETS 2015 Many maintenance and consolidation activities are foreseen on the experiment. Some of them require access to inner parts of the Detector. Priorities have been defined to stay within the YETS duration (12 weeks) 1 2 3 4 On side C, Standard Opening 5 6 On side A, Forward region ⑤Repair of MDT gas leak (EO & BW) ⑥PMTs replacement on LUCID ⑦4 TGC1 chambers to be replaced on Big Wheels 7 ① ECT-C vacuum bellows ②5 Tile drawer repairs ③2 CSC chambers to be dismounted and repaired ④1 TGC1 chamber to be replaced on Big Wheels 3

What does it entail ? M. Raymond - 02 Octobre 2015ATLAS infrastructure activities during YETS 2015 The 2 pits will be opened and shielding lifted up to surface, then heavy systems (End Cap Toroid, Small Wheel, End Cap Calorimeter) will be moved  Access to UX15 strongly disrupted on week 51  Team organized in 2 shifts : 5h – 20h30,  access to underground areas must not be limited weeks 51, 52, 1 Test secours accepted on Dec. 18 th (short disruption) Request to move the Safety test @P1 on week 53 ATLAS will be mainly stopped at the beginning of the Technical stop But needs to wake up progressively starting NO LATER than beginning of February Disruptive interventions shall be completed by end of January 2016 The full picture of the required interventions must be presented and discussed as early as possible, and in any case before the YETS starts All interventions presented in the next slides are extremely new (10 days max.), they have not yet been presented to ATLAS systems, neither discussed. As a consequence, plans are very preliminary and most of them (if not all of them) will have to be confirmed. 4

AFP installation M. Raymond - 02 Octobre 2015ATLAS infrastructure activities during YETS 20155 AFP is made a double arm detector – In YETS 2015 only one arm will be installed at C6R1 – Installation will be pursued in EYETS (2017) Each detector consists of 2 Stations containing Roman Pots placed at 205 m and 217 m from IP o secondary vacuum o air cooling Integration in tunnel in collaboration with EN-MEF Cabling Drilling of holes for the AFP supports Installation of the stations planned by the end of the YETS after commissioning of equipment on surface Modify Exterior vacuum chamber between Q5 and Q6 2 VPI 2 BLM, 1-2 BPM

AFP installation (2015-2016) M. Raymond - 02 Octobre 2015ATLAS infrastructure activities during YETS 20156 Install cables for trigger in the service tunnel for both arms (04/01 – 17/02) o After discussion with surveyors agreed to install this year both sides not to duplicate the dismounting of the surveyors equipment o This work will entail the passage of the cable from the LHC tunnel to the surveyors gallery o Need to check tightness of sealing after installation o Cable installation will be done in collaboration with EN-MEF (Gianluca Canale) Install cables for services from Stations to US15 (not yet clear if services from both ARM will be installed in 2016) o This work will be done in collaboration with EN-MEF o The cabling from US15 to USA15 (in the UX15 cavern) can be done by ATLAS team Install patch panels/crates/racks at 205 m, 217 m, and 212 m Controls, Vacuum and motorization of the roman pots done in collaboration with PH-DT o Commissioning of motorization, interlocks, and detectors

ALFA plans M. Raymond - 02 Octobre 2015ATLAS infrastructure activities during YETS 201516 On behalf of Sune Jakobsen New LVDT + electronics on A7L1L. (hopefully not new alignment) New crate for movement to reduce noise. Update of firmware for movement. New movement/interlock commissioning. New and plus additional FESA. New trigger commissioning. New vacuum pumps. Splitting DCS project in 2 (install new DCS PC). Replace fan filters. Migration to 64 bit SBC. Executables for PXI (automatic recovery after power cycle). Final firmware and software for ALFA_CTPIN (if not implemented before). Remove A7L1 for cleaning and aim for reinstallation end of YETS or a TS. New firmware for MB + PMF (Kris request). Worst case scenario (if UFO problems prosiest/enlarges):
