Geometry Section 10 DAY 1: CLASSIFYING SOLIDS Geometry S10 Day 1 1

Prisms  Prisms are named for their base shape:  Rectangular Prism  Triangular Prism  Hexagonal Prism  Pentagonal Prism  Octagonal Prism  Trapezoidal Prism  Square Prism Geometry S10 Day 1 2

Prisms  Prisms are made up of two bases and rectangular faces connecting the edges of the bases two each other. Geometry S10 Day 1 3

Cylinders  Cylinders have a circle for a base and one rectangular face curved around the circumference of the circle Geometry S10 Day 1 4

Pyramids  Rectangular Pyramid  Triangular Pyramid  Hexagonal Pyramid  Pentagonal Pyramid  Octagonal Pyramid  Square Pyramid  Pyramids are named for their bases as well Geometry S10 Day 1 5

Pyramids  Pyramids are made up of one base and triangles which converge at a point (vertex) opposite the base Geometry S10 Day 1 6

Spheres and Hemispheres  Spheres are shaped like a round ball  A hemi-sphere is half a sphere Geometry S10 Day 1 7

Cones  Cones have a circle for a base and a curved face that converges at a vertex opposite the base Geometry S10 Day 1 8

Geometry Section 10 DAY 1: SURFACE AREA Geometry S10 Day 1 9

Surface Area  The surface area of a shape is defined as the sum of the areas of all the faces Geometry S10 Day 1 10

Surface Area of A Cylinder Geometry S10 Day 1 11

Surface Area of A Prism  The surface area of a prism is found by finding the area of the bases and adding this value to the areas of the rectangular faces.  This requires breaking the 3-D Shape into its different “parts” and adding them together Geometry S10 Day 1 12

Homework ASSIGNMENT 10-1 Geometry S10 Day 1 13

Surface Area of a Pyramid  The surface area of a pyramid is found by adding the area of the base of the pyramid to the triangular faces of the pyramid.  The process for find the surface area of a pyramid is similar to that of a prism Geometry S10 Day 1 14

Surface Area of a Cone Geometry S10 Day 1 15

Surface Area of a Sphere Geometry S10 Day 1 16

Surface Area of a Hemi-Sphere Geometry S10 Day 1 17

Homework ASSIGNMENT 10-2 Geometry S10 Day 1 18
