How to Square Root By: Destiny and Madelyn

46 36 10 00 6. 1.When trying to find the square root of 46 first you find the closest number that can evenly be squared that’s lower than the first 2 digit number, 46 (pink), which in this case is 36..00 2. Then you will put the square root of the lower number you found (36), which is 6 (yellow), above the 2 digit number like in division. Then also like division you will subtract the lower number (36) from your first 2 digit number (46) and bring down 2 zeros (don’t forget to put the decimal before the zeros after 46 in the problem, blue)

46 36 10 00 6 3. Third you take the answer you have so far (yellow) and double it and put the answer in parentheses to the side with 1 blank after it (green)..00 4. Fourth you will find a 1 digit number to put in the blank and once it’s in the blank you will multiply the new number by the same 1 digit number. Your goal is to find a number that when put in the blank and multiplied by (in our case 7), it is the highest answer that doesn’t go over your subtraction then carrying down zeros answer (orange). Next carry the number in the blank (7) and put it up top (yellow). (12_) 127 X 7 = 889 7.7

46 36 10 00 6 5. Next you subtract the answer you got when you multiplied with your new single digit number (don’t for get to carry the 2 zeros again, too) Then you double your answer so far again (yellow) and put it in parentheses with a blank at the end again (red)..0000 (12_) 127 X 7 = 889 7.7 889 11100 (134_) 6. Then you basically do what you did before, find a number to fill in the blank and multiply by and get the highest answer you can below the subtracted answer (purple), this time it’s 8. Next you put the 8 up top (yellow). 8 8

46 36 10 00 6 7. Now that we have the basic answer (the decimal is continuous) you can keep it at 6.78 or round it up to 6.8..0000 (12_) 127 X 7 = 889 7.7 889 11100 (134_)8 8
