2 How To Use This Lesson Go-Givers ’ PowerPoints are designed to inform and support critical thinking and discussion. They can be used in their entirety. However, please feel free to save this lesson to your computer and edit, omit or add content as appropriate for your pupils. Please remember: Always show the PowerPoint in ‘slide show’ view. Links and animations will only work when in this mode. The green dot in the bottom right hand corner of the slide indicates when the slide animation is complete. 3 In this lesson we will be learning about the Diamond Jubilee.

4 Do you know who this is?

5 Our Queen, Elizabeth II, must be the most famous grandmother in the world! She is cheered wherever she goes.

6 She is probably the busiest and most hard- working great-grandmother in the world! Do you know what she does?

7 First of all she is a mother to Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward. Even though they are grown ups now, with children of their own. Prince Charles and his sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

8 The Queen opens parliament, and signs the laws made by our MPs.

9 Every week Queen Elizabeth has a meeting with the Prime Minister. David Cameron with The Queen.

10 The Queen welcomes important visitors from other countries… The Queen and Prince Philip with President Obama of America and his wife Michelle.

11 … and travels abroad to tell people about our country. The Queen with the King of Thailand

12 The Queen helps charities raise money for people who need our help.

13 Has your class ever written to Her Majesty? She has answered about three and a half million letters while she has been our Queen! London Buckingham Palace To The Queen

14 The Queen has also sent thousands of messages to people celebrating their 100th birthday.

15 Of course The Queen also likes to find time to take her corgi dogs for a walk! Monty! Willow! Holly!

16 Her Majesty has been our Queen for 60 years! It’s her Diamond Jubilee - time for a party!

17 On June 3 rd The Queen and her family will be rowed down the River Thames by 18 oarsmen on the Gloriana. They will be followed by 1,000 small boats.

18 On June 4 th the Diamond Jubilee concert will be held in front of Buckingham Palace.

19 2,012 beacons will be lit.

20 On June 5 th The Queen will ride in a carriage procession to a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral…

21 … and mums, dads and children will have an extra day’s holiday!
