1 Color Schemes Color combinations

2 Color Vocabulary:  Color – element of art that is seen by the way light reflects off a surface. Color can be used to express emotion or symbolism.  Color scheme – group of colors that look good together.  Examples: warm, cool, monochromatic.

3 Color Vocabulary  Primary Colors – red, yellow and blue. Original colors, cannot be created by mixing other colors.  Secondary Colors – orange, violet and green. These colors can be created by mixing together two primary colors.

4 Color Vocabulary  Tint - a color plus white/lights, can be created using light pressure.  Shade – a color plus black/darks. Can be created using heavier pressure.

5 Color vocabulary  Monochromatic Colors – tints and shades of a single color.

6 Color vocabulary  Warm Colors – colors reflecting sunlight and warmth. Red, orange, yellow. Objects appear closer in space.

7 Color vocabulary  Cool Colors – colors that are found in shadows and in colder objects. Violet, blue & green. Objects appear farther away.

9  The way an object feels.  Can be created through many different techniques including:  Stippling  Hatching  Crosshatching  Scumbling

14 Your Assignment  Find a picture of food that has an excellent source of texture.  The closer the crop/more zoomed in the image the better.  We will be creating a grid drawing of the textured object
