2 Objective The Students will be able to summarize when and why the Salem witch trails occurred.

3 Time-line

4 Background information Puritan village of 600 plus people. Books on fortune telling were popular. Puritans believed fortune telling was a sin. Accusations of practicing witch craft happened before and after 1692. (but in 1692 the number of trials increased majorly.)

5 What happened? During the winter of 1691-1692 2 Cousins took place in fortune telling. Betty Parris the Minister's daughter and Abigail Williams his niece. The Minister's slave Tituba told stories. They did fortune telling experiments The cousins became fearful of the stories and experiments

6 How they knew The most common method they used to find out if a witch was involved or not was a witch cake. They feed the witch cake to a dog. It was made of – Rye meal – Urine from the afflicted

7 Deaths 20 people died during the Salem witchcraft trials. There was only 1 method they used to kill people. The 1 method was to hang you.

8 Conclusion On October 12, 1692, Governor Phips issued orders to protect the current prisoners accused of witchcraft from harm. Although Some people were still not released. You had to pay to be released. It relates to the origins of the United States because it is a constant reminder of how politics, family, religion, economics, and the imaginations and fears of people can lead to tragic consequences.
