2 What is Reformatting? Reformatting the disk means to, refresh the hard drive to a new state. A full format permanently erases everything on the disk as part of the process.

3 Pros and Cons Pros:  Gets rid of any viruses, spyware, and malware  Makes your computer run like its new  Install a different Operating System Cons:  Permanently deletes Music, Videos, Documents, and any other important files  May need to get drivers for devices from the manufacture website if you don’t have the CD

4 Lets Begin! Before you start: Make sure you have an Operating System Installation disk Make sure you have an Operating System Installation disk Make sure you save and important files to a removable storage device (Flash Drive) Make sure you save and important files to a removable storage device (Flash Drive) Get a list of support numbers from their websites incase you run into a problem (Microsoft and Computer Manufacturer) Get a list of support numbers from their websites incase you run into a problem (Microsoft and Computer Manufacturer)

5 Accessing the BIOS

6 When the computer starts up something similar to this should appear. We are only worried about getting into the SETUP Each Manufacture uses a unique key in which you can get into the BIOS. For this example it is the DELETE key. You simple press the key that it says before you get to the Operating System logo screen.(If you DO see the Operating Sytem logo, Restart you computer and start again).

7 Once into the BIOS use the arrow keys to go to the Boot Menu and hit ENTER

8 Now using the instructions listed (1) move your CD-ROM drive to the 1 st spot (2)

9 After doing this, Save and Exit the BIOS by hitting the corresponding key (F10)

10 Insert Operating System Installation Disk in the CD-ROM Drive Turn on the computer again and it should read the Disk instead of the hard drive and take you into the windows, if not: a)Check the disk for any scratches or dust b)Go back into the BIOS and make sure everything is correct

11 Accept the licensing agreements by following the on screen directions

12 After accepting the agreement It will ask you if you would like to repair the OS. Make sure you DO NOT repair it.

13 Now you should be at a screen where you select a partion. If you are reinstalling the OS, delete the other partion BEFORE you install this one. Once again, follow the onscreen directions Delete old one first!

14 After you know where you would like the OS to be installed it is now going to ask you the size of the new partition. Just use the default and press ENTER

15 Windows XP Setup should notice that your selected partition is not formatted. The default is to format using NTFS. Hit ENTER once selected and begin the formatting.

16 Installation time differs from every computer based on hardware. After It is done installing you can then configure windows to your personalized settings

17 That’s It. You have succefully installed windows on your computer
