A little review…

43210 In addition to level 3.0 and beyond what was taught in class, the student may:  Make connection with other concepts in math.  Make connection with other content areas. The student will understand and explain the difference between functions and non-functions using graphs, equations, and tables.  Compare properties of a function to a non- function. The student will be able to model and evaluate functions and non-functions.  Use graphs, equations, and tables to determine functions and non- functions. With help from the teacher, the student has partial success with level 2 and 3 elements. Even with help, students have no success with the functions. Focus 6 - Learning Goal #1: Students will understand and explain the difference between functions and non-functions using graphs, equations, and tables.

XY 0 1 2 Complete the table to find the y- values and ordered pairs. y = 4 + 2x Substitute each x-value into the equation to solve for y. 1. y = 4 + 2(-1) y = 2 8 4 2 y = 4 + 2(0) y = 4 y = 4 + 2(1) y = 6 6 y = 4 + 2(2) y = 8

Plot each point to graph the equation y = 4 + 2x. Each x-value and y-value make an ordered pair. (-1, 2) (0, 4) (1, 6) (2, 8) Use a ruler to connect the dots. 1. XY 0 1 2 8 4 2 6

XY 0 1 2 3 Complete the table to find the y- values and ordered pairs. y = -6 + 3x Substitute each x-value into the equation to solve for y. 2. y = -6 + 3(0) y = -6 y = -6 + 3(1) y = -3 y = -6 + 3(2) y = 0 y = -6 + 3(3) y = 3 3 -3 -6 0

Plot each point to graph the equation y = -6 + 3x. Each x-value and y-value make an ordered pair. (0, -6) (1, -3) (2, 0) (3, 3) Use a ruler to connect the dots. 2. XY 0 1 2 3 3 -3 -6 0

XY 0 1 2 3 Complete the table to find the y- values and ordered pairs. y = -x + 3 The negative sign in front of the x means to multiply each x by -1. Substitute each x-value into the equation to solve for y. 3. y = -1(0) + 3 y = 3 y = -1(1) + 3 y = 2 y = -1(2) + 3 y = 1 y = -1(3) + 3 y = 0 0 2 3 1

Plot each point to graph the equation y = -x + 3. Each x-value and y-value make an ordered pair. (0, 3) (1, 2) (2, 1) (3, 0) Use a ruler to connect the dots. 3. XY 0 1 2 3 0 2 3 1
