1 Deliverance! The Story Continues….

2 God will deliver us from anything that keeps us from His promises!

3 Parallel Stories of Deliverance Begins with birth of a deliverer, and the enemy killing the male babies. Utilizes miracles to point people back to God. Ends with a lamb being sacrificed.

4 Why Plagues (Miracles)? 1. To free Israel. Pharaoh would not have agreed otherwise. 2. To prove to Israel that God is all- powerful in preparation for their wilderness experience. 3. To prove to Egypt that the God of Israel is one God and the only true God.

5 Deliverance from other gods… (1) The first plague of bloody waters was directed against Osiris, the god of the Nile. (2) The second plague of frogs was against the frog goddess Hekt. (3) The third plague of lice was against Seb, the earth god. (4) The fourth plague of beetles (or flies) was against Hatkok, the wife of Osiris. (5) The fifth plague of cattle disease was against Apis, the sacred bull god.

6 Deliverance from other gods… (6) The sixth plague, boils, was against Typhon, the god who protected Egypt from certain diseases. (7) The seventh plague, hail and fire, was against Shu, the god of the atmosphere. (8) The eighth plague, locusts, was against Serapia, the god who protected Egypt against locusts. (9) The ninth plague, darkness, was against Ra, the sun god. (10) The tenth plague, the death of the firstborn, was an attack on all gods.

7 The Shadow (Passover) The Fulfillment (Communion) …each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice... But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign…When I see the blood, I will pass over you. (Exodus 12) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) …Christ our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us. (1 Cor. 5:7)
