He signed his signature big enough so that King George could see it without his glasses. John Hancock is remembered for his large signature on the Declaration of Independence, so much that his name became a synonym for the word “signature”.

5. Other Famous Facts Before the American Revolution, he was one of the most wealthiest men in the Thirteen Colonies. The navy named two of their boats after him. Various states have counties named after him, including Georgia. He was the first and third governor of the Common Wealth of Massachusetts.

6. Death John Hancock died while he was serving as Governor of Massachusetts. He was fifty six years old.
