1 Conifers Reproduce with flowers and seeds in cones. Use wood to grow tall. Can cope with low temperatures and lack of water. Most are trees. Narrow leaves. Grow quite slowly but live a long time.

2 Flowering plants Reproduce with flowers and seeds. Some use wood to grow tall. Leaves are wide. Grow quickly. Stems have a very good transport system. There is a lot of variety.

3 Mosses Reproduce with tiny cells called spores. Leaves do not have a skin. Can cope with low temperatures. Very small. No roots or vessels. Egg cells are fertilised with swimming sperm.

4 Ferns and Horsetails Reproduce with tiny cells called spores. Cannot make wood in their stalks. Leaves lose water easily. Most are small. Can grow with only a little light. Most die back in winter but grow again in the spring.
