The Ku Klux Klan was started in 1866 as a way for people to protest against equality for black people after the Civil War. Common activities were cross burnings, parades, rallies, and marches. Sometimes they became more violent as with lynching and bombings. The Klan was at its high peak in the late 1920’s with close to 4 million members.
