May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments1 Agenda 1) Minutes of last meeting 2) DSS Back End software progress by Giulio Morpurgo 3) DSS Compliance Matrix Status 4) Review planning 5) Installation Planning 6) General DSS News

May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments2 DSS Back-End software Presentation on the state of development of the DSS back-end software by: Giulio Morpurgo

May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments3 Compliance Matrix Sascha has updated the DSS Compliance Matrix, and it can be found at: http://cern.ch/proj-lhcdss/DSSTeam/Review/ Comments and feedback on this are welcome Please pass by the lab to see and check out the DSS status, as well as for any questions on the Compliance Matrix!

May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments4 Communications After system tests, it appears that the Siemens OPC server is not fast enough for our requirements This OPC server uses a specific Siemens Ethernet card which handles redundancy automatically We are now looking at an Applicom OPC which should be faster than the Siemens version, but: The Ethernet card we now have must be updated for XP It will have to be custom configured for redundancy We need to establish an overall Ethernet DSS system layout for installation in the LHC experiments in collaboration with IT/CS group

May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments5 DSS Review General philosophy of the DSS, with the explanations for the choices made and the consequences attaching System choices and the reasons behind them - any significant implications? Hardware part Software part of the design Expansion possibilities of the DSS design Known risks Compliance matrix with the functional specification Justification for non-compliances What is provided/what is excluded? What flexibility is possible for adding functionality later? Look at code

May 14, 2003The Detector Safety System for LHC Experiments6 DSS News The DSS CPUs’ have been tested with 75 meters of 50 micron CERN fiber cable from Stores There could be a fire risk with Siemens specified cable The no-break supplies have successfully completed a run- down test in the lab A test panel has been attached to the front-end and it is foreseen to add an automatic tester Stefan has compiled a complete Front-end hardware list We have received a new 1U high industrial PC to act as the DSS OPC server. It can be remote started over Ethernet
