2. Shared Simulation Educators  Similarities with the Two NSP II grants  Both with local hospitals who had partnered with Stevenson on other activities  Both were committed to implementing simulation at their hospitals.  Both were involved in serving on the Search Committee to identify the Simulation Educator.

3. Shared Simulation Educators (con’t)  Differences between the two grants  One grant was 3 years, one was 2 years  One grant had major changes in the contacts on the hospital side, the other didn’t  One hospital had significantly more resources to contribute toward simulation.

4. What we learned Both grants provided wonderful opportunities. Students got to participate in more inter-professional simulations than they would have just at Stevenson Use of simulation lab space at the hospitals and the university was especially helpful for make-up clinical time.

5. Rewards and Challenges  The three simulation educators from our grants became a great team.  Simulation equipment is expensive.  Not everyone is comfortable with simulation or what it can do.

6. Certified Nurse Educator -  Year I – we offered the CNE review course at Stevenson with a speaker from NLN  Speaker did not get good evaluations. Of the 99 people who took the course, only 56% were nurse educators in MD. Only 30% said that they felt ready to take the CNE exam.

7. CNE – increasing the numbers (con’t)  Stevenson partnered with Carroll Community College. Carroll arranged for the CNE speaker, hosted the workshop, publicized the event.  The Stevenson grant paid for the speaker, the food at the workshop

8. CNE – the final year  Faculty who took the CNE review course have been studying independently. Seven are expected to take the exam this year. Three have already passed.  Funds are still available to help with reimbursing faculty for the cost of the exam, or to offer another CNE course.  Let me know if you are interested in partnering.
