2 MONDAY, OCTOBER 19  Fill out agenda  Turn in Newspaper article and STAPLE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER AND RUBRIC TO IT  Bellwork: How do you properly use commas in compound sentences (a sentence with two independent clauses in it)? Write an example of a properly punctuated compound sentence.

3 TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20  Fill out agenda  READING PROJECT DUE TOMORROW!  Bellwork: Did you put as much effort as you could into reading your novel and completing your reading project? How will you do better next time?

5 WELCOME, DETECTIVES!  In your groups, you will try to solve the suspicious murder of Fortunado using evidence provided in the text  Objectives: Interview potential witnesses Do a psychological evaluation of the suspect Create a timeline of events the night of the murder Create a ‘murder board’ that connects the evidence

11 TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27  Bellwork: Categorize the following clauses as independent or dependent While brushing my teeth I ate cereal for breakfast For lunch After school My cat eats mice  NEED YOUR NOVEL—WRITE PASS TO GET IT IF YOU DON’T HAVE IT!

12 WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28  Bellwork: Write the following sentences and circle the subject, underline the simple predicate, and label the direct object (DO) if there is one Carrie and her dog, Harper, went to the park to play. Having a bad day, Monty cried on the bus.

13 ASSESSMENT TODAY!  Turn in bellwork  Need pen or pencil out (nothing else)  When done, silent read (in seats) Leave test on desk  When whole class is finished, we will watch a movie!

14 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2  THIS IS A NEW BELLWORK SHEET!  Bellwork: Write a few sentences about what is important to you as a person (activities, personality traits, family traditions, etc.) If you don’t have novel, write a pass to get one

16 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4  Bellwork: How would you define a stereotype? Give a few examples of stereotypes that we talked about yesterday or that you may know about.

17 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5  Put worksheet from yesterday on desk (the stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination one)—I will collect for points.  Bellwork: Try and explain the difference between prejudice and discrimination. (2-3 sentences)—you may use examples

18 FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6  Put bellwork on table (I will collect it during Student News)

19 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9  Put stereotype reflection on desk and I will collect (we did this Friday)  Bellwork: What’s the definition of a verb? How many ‘categories’ of verbs can you think of?

20 TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10  Bellwork: Describe the difference between passive and active verbs Write a sentence for both passive and active

21 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11  Bellwork: Write a 1 paragraph response to the following prompt. Prompt= If you could swim in a pool filled with a food, what would that food be and why? Explain with details what it would be like!

22 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12  Bellwork: Punctuate, capitalize, and add dialogue to the following sentence take out the trash yelled claire or you will not be going out tonight

26 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16  Hand in “Native American Cultures” packet  Put AoW on desk  Continue with bellwork from last week Bellwork: Describe how the day went on Friday for the sub. Were most students well behaved? Were you able to work in a quiet environment? Rate the day on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being a great day)

27 TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17  If you haven’t turned in “I Am” poem, you must print it and hand it in (I will not accept an electronic copy now)  Bellwork: Explain how you would punctuate a sentence if the tagline interrupts the speaker’s dialogue. How do you decide if you need to use a comma or a period after the first direct quote?

28 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18  No bellwork today  Prepare for quiz (no papers/notes out)  Pencil ready  When finished, silent read IN SEAT I WILL COLLECT YOUR QUIZ

31 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23  Turn in any last-minute late work into the basket I will not allow you to turn it in tomorrow  Take “Leads” assignment out I may give you additional time to work on this today  Prepare for Student News
