Acts 22:30 – 23:35

1) Paul’s quote of Ezekiel 13 2) Jesus’ definition of whitewashing 3) What’s my wall? Am I whitewashing it? OUR CONVERSATION

1)Literally 2)Spiritually 3)Metaphorically WHAT’S A WALL IN THE O.T.?

[Eze 13:10-12 NIV] 10 " 'Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, 11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth. 12 When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, "Where is the whitewash you covered it with?" THE WALL OF THE SANHEDRIN

[Act 4:12 NIV] 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." SANHEDRIN’S WALL EXPOSED

[Act 22:21-22 NIV] 21 "Then the Lord said to me, 'Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.' " 22 The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, "Rid the earth of him! He's not fit to live!" UNTIL…

[Act 10:28 NIV] 28 "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.” PETER’S WALL

[Act 10:34-35 NIV] 34 "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.” PETER’S REPENTANCE

[Mat 23:27 NIV] 27 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which looks beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. WHITEWASHING

[Mat 23:23 NIV] 23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-- justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. JESUS’ DEFINITION

Whitewashing a wall is using religious rituals to cover up what we truly depend on to hold our lives up and provide us with security, safety and sustenance. LET’S SUMMARIZE

[Rev 21:5 NIV] 5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." HOW ABOUT TODAY?

A GOOD HOME RENOVATION

Discipleship for me is the process of continually allowing the Holy Spirit to consume and transform my body, my soul, my strength, my heart and my mind into the reflection of my Lord, Jesus Christ. WHAT’S DISCIPLESHIP?

By making the choice daily to allow the Holy Spirit enable me fulfill the greatest commandment, to “Love the Lord my God with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind'; and, 'Love my neighbor as myself" so that when the time comes when I see God face to face, God will see a reflection of Jesus as opposed to the old Jonathan Chan. WHAT’S DISCIPLESHIP?

I also know that whatever is currently consuming my heart, my soul, my strength and my mind is the wall that I depend on for my safety, security and life support. So, if that something or someone is not Jesus, then He is not my wall, i.e. he is not my Lord and I’m not his disciple. WHAT’S DISCIPLESHIP?

Your wall is what’s currently consuming you. Your time, energy, effort, thoughts & money WHAT’S YOUR WALL?

[Mar 7:20-23 NIV] 20 He went on: "What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come--sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person." ARE YOU WHITEWASHING?

[Mar 7:20-23 NIV] 20 He went on: "What comes out of a person is what cleans them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that clean thoughts come--love, joy, patience, 22 kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. 23 All these thoughts come from inside and clean a person." ARE YOU WHITEWASHING?

How are you doing? ON THAT NOTE
