4 What is a serger? Machine that joins 2 layers of fabric to: – Form a seam – Trim away extra SA – Finish the fabric edge Provides a ready-to-wear finish to a home sewn garment Supplement to the Sewing Machine

5 Functions Can’t do buttonholes, zippers, or embroidery Loopers form stitch by looping thread around needle thread – NO BOBBIN

6 Knive used to trim off the fabric Thread from right to left Works best with knit fabrics Seam Sealant:best way to finish a serged seam Chaining off: serging off the end of the fabric until a 2-3” thread chain forms – No backstitching
