2 IEEE 802.15-15-0272-00-004q Submission CID#3049 Comments: The introduction is not supposed to be a re- statement of the scope. Instead it is supposed to give context to the standard. You should provide some history and justification for the standard. The changes in this draft still do not reflect the guidance in the Style Guide. Re-check IEEE Style Manual: –An introduction should give the history of the standard, a description of its purpose, and, if the standard is a revision, an explanation of the principal changes from the previous edition. The introduction should also explain the document structure for multipart standards or for documents within a family of standards. An introduction is not an official or normative part of the proposed standard and shall not contain requirements or recommendations; therefore, the following statement shall appear in a box rule above the text: This introduction is not part of IEEE Pxxx, title of draft.] If footnotes are necessary in an introduction, they shall be noted with lowercase letters (a, b, c, d, etc.). 3 IEEE 802.15-15-0272-00-004q Submission CID#3049 Resolution: Revised. Add the following new text to the Introduction subclause (as the new first paragraph): For over a decade, the IEEE 802.15 working group successfully developed wireless PAN standards (802.15.4) with low energy consumption in mind. However, further reduction in energy consumption is desired to address emerging markets like wearable devices, electronic shelf labeling and building automation where the energy sources, driven by size and cost constrains, are limited to small size batteries (e.g., coin cell batteries). These energy sources have substantial less capacity and peak power ratings than traditional batteries (e.g. AA or AAA size). This calls for an amendment which aims for further reduction in energy consumption and peak power. It is expected that this amendment could also benefit the traditional markets, which have already been successfully addressed by IEEE802.15.4, by getting a prolonged battery life.
