2 The project came into being as a result of the findings and recommendations from the Scrutiny Report of Fuel Poverty in Cumbria on behalf of the Cumbria Health & Well-being Scrutiny Committee Project Background

3 Age Concern Barrow, Eden, & North West Cumbria --- Brampton Community Association “Breath Right” South Lakeland Consumer Advice Bureau South Lakeland Catholic Caring Services / Caritas Care Home Prime Housing Association South Lakes Housing Association West Cumbria Carers McMillan Relief (Plus statements from 5 individuals) Scrutiny Respondants

4 The Key Objective ‘To reduce fuel poverty and thereby reduce cold/damp homes, cold related illness, excess winter deaths, excessive fuel bills and health care costs’

5 Recommendations 1. Designation of Cumbria Wide Warm Zone 2. Role of Front Line Staff 3. Inter Agency Training 4. Targeting Advice in Areas of Greatest Need 5. Awareness Raising for Councillors 6. Lobbying by County & District Councils 7. Mental Health Effects measures by the NHS

6 Current Project Status 1 July 2010 4 th May 2010 Project Manager came into post with the following remit: - Promoting Fuel Poverty Issues Forming Partnerships with Agencies Accessing Funding for Insulation Measures Producing a Fuel Poverty Strategy/Action Plan Producing Polices and Procedures for the whole of Cumbria
