3 Do you think there is such a thing as ‘sensible drinking’? Do you agree that alcohol can be taken in moderation? Do you think that alcohol should be avoided altogether? Is 18 the right age limit for buying alcohol? Young people are put under pressure to try things when in social groups, how should you deal with this?

4 o All pupils must be able to analyse how alcohol affects a person’s ability to make decisions. o Most pupils should be able to discuss the way that this could affect relationships. o Some pupils could be able to identify and predict specific decisions that could be affected by alcohol.

5 Gary and Kim are heavy drinkers and their relationship suffers because of this. Video Facts – It’s Your Shout Emma and Rob have a good relationship, and are not keen to drink more than they want.

6 Jack is an aggressive person, who becomes more aggressive the more he drinks. Mel is a sexual predator who uses the fact that others have been drinking to manipulate them. Mel and Jack are constantly trying to encourage others to drink a lot, and in fact they goad Gary throughout the drama to down his drinks in one go. Video Facts – It’s Your Shout

7 1.Which characters had the most sensible attitude towards drinking? 2.Suggest a reason why does Kim drinks in the way that she does - ie buying two glasses of wine at a time, and says that she wants to get drunk. 3.Why do the class think that Gary needs to drink everything he can lay his hands on?

8 4. Jack drinks alone, but not to excess is this a bad thing to do? 5. At what point in the film could the situation have been retrieved? 6. Why were this group out together as it appeared that they didn ’ t like each other? 7. Consider how the people in the group might have reacted to Gary and the broken glass if they had not been drinking.
