What is caELMIR  caBIG – NCI Biomedical Informatics Grid project provide the tools and infrastructure to link cancer centers, and support collaborative research  caBIG, Electronic Laboratory Management Information Retrieval system LIMs for experimental data pre-clinical data – specifically centered on the collection and management of experimental mouse data

Why did we create caELMIR?  Grew out of the needs of the Mouse Models of Human Cancer Consortium (MMHCC) 2005 - MMHCC consortium was informed that data sharing meant more then experimental publication and that the consortium needed a plan to share data with the scientific community. Conducted a survey of its scientists to determine their capability for sharing experimental raw data.

7. MMHCC survey findings  Most laboratories were not equipped to share basic experimental datasets.  Most commonly they had neither plans or systems to centrally store and retrieve data.  There were no readily available tools for this task.

11. Animal management  Animals are assumed to “live” in a colony management system. Expose simple JSON based API to interact with colony management systems Mouse data is simply retrieved copied to caELMIR Animals can be entered directly into the database if no colony management system exists
