1 Think of Tomorrow, Today Grade 10 going into Grade 11 and one day into Grade 12

2 What are the compulsory Courses that must be taken in Grade 11? English Math Religion The level that you pick will depend on whether you have the interest in going to University, College or Work after graduation All grade 11 students MUST take :

3 Make sure that you have one course for each category – needed for graduation Group 1 English or French as a second language A native language A classical or international language Social science and the humanities Canadian and world studies Guidance and career education Cooperative education Group 2 health and physical education business studies French as a second language Cooperative education Group 3 Science (grade 11 or 12) Technological education French as a second language Computer science Cooperative education

4 If you are interested in going to University You MUST take – Grade 11 University English NBE3U Make sure that you keep all your doors open: The course codes are very important For those students wanting to go to University, or to College for a Degree program - yours courses MUST have a U or M in them Example: Math - MRC3U for science programs, business program, etc Sciences: Physics SPH 3U, Chemistry SCH3U Biology SBI3U - These courses keep the doors open for all math, science courses at a university level – Engineering, Life Science etc. Note: Chemistry is the foundation for all science courses. You may want to pair Biology with Chemistry or Physics with Chemistry.

5 Going to University What happens if you hate math or struggle with math? No problem!! You can still go to university, if that is what you want. Yet, you still need a third math course for graduation. I would recommend that you take Functions and Applications – MCF3 M and this course will keep your door open for the grade 12 Data Management Course MDM4U that will be useful for courses like Psychology, Sociology and other Art Programs at a University level. Please note that if you took grade 10 applied math – the mark needs to be high enough for you to be able to handle the grade 11 math course.

6 Going to University Remember that you need to take a total of 8 credits in grade 11 What else can you take? This is a great time to take a 2 credit co-op and explore an interest that you have for you future. You most likely will not have the luxury of co-op in Grade 12 Once again, remember that the courses that you take MUST be University coded with the 5 th unit containing a U or M Example : CGF3 M or CLU 3 U Your grade 11 marks from all the U and M courses will be looked at for early acceptance by some universities. Open courses DO NOT count towards your University acceptance. Note: You will find Colleges that offer degree programs, will have the same the requirements as the universities with U and M courses

7 Are you thinking about going to College for a Diploma English is a MUST – College English - NBE3C You must take a total of 8 courses These courses can be a C courses (College) or M courses (University/College) Example Math - Foundation for College Math MBF3 C Functions and Application MCF3 M Once again, this is a perfect opportunity to take a 2 credit co-op in an area of your interest.

8 Are you thinking about going to Work after Graduation You need to take grade 11 English – NBE 3C and for those students that really struggle with English and do not want to keep their doors open for college or Apprenticeship then you can take, Essential English - NBE 3 E – The E stands for the Essential courses Once again, remember, you still need to take a total of 8 courses in grade 11 Your courses can be Open course, HLS3 O and/or College courses This is the opportunity to take co-op – 2 credit And 2 credit co-op in grade 12 Or wait until grade 12 for a 3 or 4 credit coop.

10 What do you need to take in order to get the RED SEAL? Business 2 credit co-op in grade 11 2 Business courses in grade 11 2 Business courses in grade 12 Health and Wellness 2 credit co-op in grade 11 2 credits in Science/Phy. Ed/Cosmetology Gr 11 2 credits in Science/Phy. Ed/Cosmetology Gr 12

11 Apprenticeship - OYAP Who is Eligible? Students who are at least 16 years of age and have successfully completed 16 high school credits Students who enroll in a 2, 3, or 4 credit cooperative education program at their home school To receive an OSSD, students must still complete all compulsory credits. Accelerated OYAP Students are partnered with local colleges and unions and have the opportunity to complete all or part of their Basic Level One in one of the many Accelerated programs. Please visit our website at www.oyaptcdsb.com for further details Students will be interviewed prior to being accepted into any Accelerated Program Students must be in their graduating year and have completed 26 credits by the start of their final semester. Students may be eligible to earn Dual Credits in many of the Accelerated programs.
