Ms. Nelson’s Beginning Drama Class

There was a kind little boy who thought the sky was very beautiful. He often asked his mother, “What’s in the sky that makes it so beautiful?” His mother always replied, “One day, you’ll see.”

After school, the boy would swiftly do his homework, so that he could venture out into the forest behind his house. There he would climb to the tops of trees of all different shapes and sizes. He would sit at the top and gaze at the sky, watching the clouds and the planes, sometimes sketching them. All the while he still wondered in his mind, “What is in the sky that makes it so beautiful?”

His parents cleared out some brush around a very special tree that he had not noticed before. It just so happened to be the tallest tree in the forest. He climbed and climbed, taking deep breaths as he went, never looking down, only looking up, until he found himself, not just looking at the clouds, but looking above the clouds!

The boy heard something echo in his ears. It sounded like his name. He strained to listen, and sure enough he heard a deep, smooth voice say, “Jeremiah.” He looked all around him, and he saw a figure walking toward him on the clouds in the distance. As the figure drew closer, Jeremiah realized with a shout, “It’s Jesus!” Jesus smiled at Jeremiah and helped him up onto the cloud from the tree.

The boy felt as though he was in a dream as he balanced on the clouds with Jesus. Jesus smiled at Jeremiah as the boy looked around him in awe. Jesus spoke again, “Jeremiah. I have heard you ask your mother what is in the sky that makes it so beautiful. Well, come with me and I will show you the Kingdom of Heaven.” The Kingdom of Heaven was more beautiful than Jeremiah could have imagined. Walls of jasper, streets of gold, and mansions filled the space, all lit with a bright glow.

After strolling through the shimmering streets, and seeing all the gorgeous scenery Heaven had to offer, another figure appeared, walking along side Jeremiah and Jesus. It was Jeremiah’s long passed grandfather. “Grandpa!” exclaimed Jeremiah. “Do you see now what makes the sky so beautiful?” asked Jeremiah’s grandfather, smiling. “I do!” said Jeremiah. “But I don’t know why I get to see it.” “You have been a wonderful boy,” said the grandfather. “And we want you to continue to be good, and spread goodness to others, along with the message and hope that Heaven is real,” said Jesus.

Jeremiah worked hard to be as good as he could be. He helped his mom around the house without complaining. He helped people in the community with any of their needs. All the while, Jeremiah told them all, “Heaven is real. Jesus is real. Be kind. Believe in what’s in the sky that makes it beautiful.”

Once upon a time there was… And every day… Until one day… And then… And ever since that day…
