2 Goal:  Solve equations that using distribution on both sides.

3 Basics Distribute on Both Sides First! Simply the expression (combine like terms) Goal: Get the variable to the left side Solve the Equation using Inverse Relationships Remember: You always want to solve for the Variable, “X = ?”

4 Practice Distribution 4 (1- x ) -2(x + 1) SHOW YOUR WORK

5 Answers 4 (1- x ) 4 + -4x -2(x + 1) -2x + -2

6 4 (1- x ) + 3x = -2(x + 1) 4 (1+ - x ) + 3x = -2(x + 1) 4 + -4x + 3x = -2x + -2 4 + -1x = -2x + -2 +2x + 2x 4 + 1x = -2 -4 -4 x = -6 Change Sub --> + Distribute on BOTH sides Simply the Equation Do the Inverse Relationship to get the Variables on the LEFT SIDE Do the Inverse of Addition [subtraction]
