Wheels and Axles Model Assembly Instructions copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Lay the pieces of wood out as shown in the picture below. The long pieces are put down first and the smaller pieces are placed at their ends to form a shape called a “rectangle”. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Cut out from the green card four small triangles. Use a small amount of wood glue along the short edges of a triangle and place it at a corner. Do the same for the other corners. Allow the wood glue to dry! copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Turn the frame over and glue four more green corners on the other side. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Turn the frame on its side. Glue a gray axle-holder with a hole in it onto the wooden piece so that the sharp point is touching the end, as shown below. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Glue three more axle-holders onto the other corners in the same way. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Place the two axles through the holes and across the frame you have made. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Push four small black mini-washers onto the axles. Leave a little room between the mini-washers and the gray axle-holders. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Choose four wheels and push them onto the axles. Check that the axles turn freely and that your vehicle moves on the floor. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

Turn the vehicle over and test it out again. If it moves in an arc it is because the axles are not straight across the body. Finish off the axles by pushing four mini-washers onto them. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

If you glue the white cardboard sheet onto the vehicle, as shown, you can place different objects on it and discover how the vehicle moves with different masses. copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011

What combination of wheels do you think will make the vehicle go the furthest? copyright Mechanical Kits Ltd. 2011
