In every wheel At Elaphe we use our own radical innovations to design and deliver in-wheel motors…these are electric motors, that fit directly into the wheel of the car, boost the performance, increase efficiency and reduce the overall production price. Since our motors have a significant advantage over the competitive electric motors, we expect to have a substantial part of the adressable market that willto grow to more than half a billion € in We have obtained the first three commercial customers this year, following the 6 internally developed generations of prototypes. In-wheel drive – disruptive technology Let me tell you a short story about a disruptive innovation called the in-wheel motor. Just 10 years ago the market of electric bicycles and scooters used the same concept as electric cars use today. A central motor, with transmission and gearing to the wheel. But as in-wheel technology advanced far enough, this changed. Today 99% of newly made electric scooters and bikes has an in-wheel motor. We use our unique electromagnetic design to design and deliver custom in-wheel motors for our customers. We will sell the motors directly to them and the production will be done either by us or a production parnter, mostly depending on the volume. But more importantly, calculating bottom up, you get a half a billion € market, just for in-wheel motors. This means a big opportunity for Elaphe. 5 Solving the pain Reducing the weight and number of components
Reducing the weight and number of components Increasing the overall efficiency by up to 20%! Reducing the overall propulsion system price This is because we enable car designers to simplify the car as much as possible. They do not need to worry about complicated, heavy and expensive parts like the transmission and gearing, so they can save on the production price and also development, if they are designing a vehicle bottom up. Removing transsmission also improves efficiency up to 20% so they can use a smaller battery pack. All things considered in-wheel motors reduce the price of the propulsion system, but sometimes it turns out some of the other benefits are even more important for the customer like more space, autonomy of motors, marketing opportunities,…). If we compare ourselfes with the competition in the key metrics for in-wheel motors, the specific torque,we can see that we have a substantial advantage over them. This reduces unsprung mass, which means more confort and better handling, and brings down the raw material consumption. Radical innovations Twelve patents until end 2012 Competition patents It’s neccessary to mention the IP, because we are aware that it will be the most important base for the valuation of the company, at the exit of the investor. While the competition has advanced with either incremental innovations on the EM part, or even the mechanical part, we have radical innovations on the EM part that ensure us not only the advantage we have today, but also a much higher potential, for future improvement. We have produced our first commercial prototype, for a city car project this year, and we have completed the design of two more motors for commercial projects just this month. These are a city car project, an all terain vehicle for the alp enviroment and a Smart conversion kit. All of these are the type of companies we are focusing on in short term- the electric vehicle manufacturers,that have shorter development cycles, flexible processes and are therefore more open to cooperation. Our innovator, Andrej Detela, who is also a theoretical phisicist, specializing in quantum EM, who has a history of succesful projects and sold patents, also in DD applications. He founded the company with our CEO, Gorazd Lampič, and they gathered a young and ambitious team to bring the innovations to the market.
