2 What is Power Economics?
-The study of the costs and efficiencies of transporting electricity from conductors to consumers Basically, power econ is the financial side electrical engineering

3 What Do Power Economists Do?
Specialize in making sure that the energy sources are not overloaded Work to maximize output of energy without increasing emissions Try to use combinations of energy sources to lower costs Work to prevent outages (go to website and direct audience to notice the costs and emissions labled. Explain chart. Then turn one of the external power sources off. Notice how cost of other external system goes up and wait for outage.

7 Hydroelectric By far the cheapest of the renewable energy sources in the United States In the Pacific Northwest, cost is about 4 cents per kilowatt hour (three times cheaper than national average) Most of the cost involved comes from building the dams

8 Nuclear Average cost is about 1.65 cents per kilowatt hour
Main disadvantages are high initial costs (construction of plant) and safety concerns

10 What can we do? Invest in new, efficient appliances
Be conscious of energy consumption Turn your electronics off when they are not being used Spread the word about the advantages of green power What can we do to help the grid?
