Thursday 8/7/2014 Global Issues Let’s talk and brainstorm. What are some issues you know of in the world? Research together! Don’t know what something means/looks like? Let’s watch a video clip and see how Earth Science issues effect the Earth as well as the people that live on it!

Friday 8/8/2014 Did you do your homework? Let’s chat more together about topics we’re interested in! HOMEWORK: Come in with more topics you are interested in. WRITE THEM DOWN and have some research done about each. 3-5 total! I WILL BE CHECKING THIS OFF FOR POINTS! Have a good weekend!

Tsunami HOMEWORK: research Tsunamis!!!! Come in with information about AT LEAST 3 Tsunamis ! Earthquake in ocean Waves/damage Can cause fire Floods Causality (people dying)/or specific family story

Monday 8/18/2014 WARM UP: Please turn to someone next to you and discuss what you’ve found about tsunamis so far. Make information packets together. Learn hour to ‘cite’ the website we got the packet from. HOMEWORK: Find 3 tsunamis you would want to research. *** I’ll be checking this in for homework credit tomorrow!!!

Hazard A hazard is a source of danger or threat that can cause damage to property or lives to be lost.

Natural Hazard A natural hazard is a threat from phenomena that are not man ‐ made, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tsunamis in the natural environment, which poses a danger to human life and property.

Tsunami The word, ‘tsunami’, is of Japanese origin, pronounced (tsoo ‐ NAH ‐ mee). The first part of the word, ‘tsu’ means ‘harbour’ and ‘nami' means ‘wave’. Tsunamis are called ‘maremoto’ in Spanish and ‘raz ‐ de ‐ marée’ in French. Some people also refer to tsunamis as seismic sea waves. Tsunamis are no longer called ‘tidal waves’.
