3. 1. Medishield Medishield will cover up to 80% of a large medical bill at the class B2/C level. To ensure that individuals are self relevant and independent in the management of health care costs. 2. Government Support Keeping Health care affordable through government’s help. 3. Means Testing Amount of subsidy given to the people is determined by means testing. Means testing is a way to determine how much subsidy a patient should be receiving basic on his income level. 4. Government Subsides Direct subsidies are also given to government hospitals, polyclinics and some nursing home. Government will pay part of the medical costs, depending on the income level of the patient. Lower income groups can obtain up to 75% subsidy.

4. 5. Medifund The government has set up Medifund to provide help to those who are unable to pay for their health care costs even after receiving subsidies. Needy patients can apply for the fund at the hospitals where they are being treated. 6. Healthy Lifestyles The government also promotes a healthy lifestyles because good health ensures. Schools and workplaces have started programmers to promote the need to maintain good health. 7. Restructuring Hospitals Government support ensures that financial help is given to the needy and the poor. This will enable every Singaporeans to obtain medical care when they need it. 8. Community Support Provides health care support to patients who require long term medical care.

5. 9. Community Support Services The government is unable to provide all forms of health care services. The community provides some forms of health care support services to meet the need of people. The health care services provided by the community may cater to specific groups of people such as the poor or those who are suffering from particular illness. Health care services are provide medical, nursing and palliative care. Also provide centre-based health care services which allows older persons to visit these centre during the day on a regular basic.
