4 Not A Novice (1 Timothy 3:6) Not a recent convert Greek word, neofuton, means “newly planted, a neophyte, a novice, a new convert, one who recently became a Christian” Might be puffed up (v. 6)

5 Not A Novice (1 Timothy 3:6) Not required of all Christians One cannot help being a new Christian Elder has been around awhile, able to teach (Hebrews 5:11-14)

6 Not Covetous (1 Timothy 3:3; Titus 1:7) Not one whose goal is making money Greek word, aischrokerdos, means “not greedy of base gain” Tempted to hoard the Lord’s money Must be driven by love for the church and the souls of men

7 Not Covetous (1 Timothy 3:3; Titus 1:7) Qualification required of all of us Kingdom first (Matthew 6:33) Trust in God, not material things (Hebrews 13:5)

8 Good Reputation (1 Timothy 3:7) How he is viewed from the outside Impeccable reputation Greek word, marturion, root of our word “martyr” (Revelation 2:13) Essential for keeping the church’s reputation intact

9 Good Reputation (1 Timothy 3:7) Required of all of us Live “soberly, righteously, and godly” (Titus 2:11, 12) Letting our light shine (Matthew 5:16)

10 Holy (Titus 1:8) Essential Greek word, hosion, meaning “religiously right, pure, free from wickedness” Does not let sin reign in him (Romans 6:12) Life reflects one who is dedicated to serving God

11 Holy (Titus 1:8) Another trait we must all have A holy sacrifice (Romans 12:1, 2) Holy because God is holy (1 Peter 1:15, 16; 2:5)

12 Conclusion Not sinless and perfect men Striving to be holy as we all are
