2 Worldwide CLIC & CTF3 Collaboration

3 CTF3 Collaboration Goals  Build a small-scale version of the CLIC RF power source, to demonstrate: –full beam loading accelerator operation –electron beam pulse compression and frequency multiplication using RF deflectors  Provide the RF power to test CLIC accelerating structures and components  CTF3 is being built at CERN by a collaboration modeled on the large physics experiments

4 CLEX – Two Beam Test Stand (TBTS)  High-power test of PETS – first tests of CLIC (lengthened) prototypes  12 GHz high-power test of accelerating structures  Two beam acceleration of ‘main’ beam from CALIFES  Measurement of breakdown kick, breakdown current meas. planned  High-power test of PETS on/off mechanism  Operation of CLIC module

5 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC Pakistan started its formal collaboration with CERN in 1994. In 2006, Pakistan signed a Protocol with CERN to encourage extending the existing scientific, technical and educational co- operation.

6 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC PAK – CERN Protocol 2006: Present on going Collaboration with CLIC is a result of PAK-CERN Protocol 2006. As per Annex. VII-b of this Protocol it was proposed that Pakistan, as a new partner in the CTF3 collaboration, focuses on items related to the test beam line (TBL) in CLEX.

7 Beginning of Collaboration: Contribution to the CLIC study and to the CTF3 Project started with the visit of Walter Wuensch at HMC-3, Taxila – Pakistan in October, 2006 and Subsequent collaboration with Germana Riddone resulted in finalization of a team for Participation in Design, assembly and installation of High frequency CLIC proto-type structure for a period of 02 years. COLLABORATION WITH CLIC

8 Contribution by Design Teams: Therefore contribution to the CLIC study and to the CTF3 Project started in June, 2007 which is still in progress. In this context, up till now a total of 32 man- months have been contributed by HMC-3 Design teams and following Design Engineers / Designers have worked for CLIC/ CTF3 Project. 10 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC List of Assembly Team: Team-1 Nasir Abbas Imran Baig Muhammad Boota Nisar Gul Feb., 2009 to May, 2009 March, 2009 to May., 2009 May., 2009 to Aug., 2009 Aug., 2009 to Oct., 2009 As per present plans, the above Assembly team from HMC-3 will be contributing a total of 13 man-months towards CLIC/ CTF3 project.

12 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC Contribution towards Design of TBL Parts: HMC-3 Design Team has been involved in the Mechanical Design of various components of TBTS. This includes following:  Vacuum Vessels for PETS & ACS.  Support & Alignment Systems for PETS & ACS.  Layout modeling of different RF components in TBTS.  Supports for these RF components.

13 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC Contribution towards Manufacturing of TBL-PETS parts: Presence of HMC-3 Design teams provided a good opportunity towards contribution in building of Mechanical components in Pakistan. Up till now following components have been fabricated at HMC-3, Taxila.

14 COLLABORATION WITH CLIC 1)C.O # CE043 – Supply of 02Nos. of Vacuum Vessels along with Support system for PETS: Fabrication of both the vacuum vessels and support system for PETS was completed, delivered and installed on TBTS.
