When Texas was part of Mexico it was part of the state Coahuila y Tejas. The flag of this state had two stars on it, so when Texas gained it's independence in 1836 they retained the same flag design, minus one star This represents Texas' split from Mexico and it also gave Texas the nickname "The Lone Star State." The smallest skyscraper in the world is located in Wichita Falls, Texas just up the highway 140 miles northwest from Dallas. Officially listed as the world's smallest skyscraper for decades, the structure is actually only 410 inches tall.
According to legend a scam artist drew up plans for the building to lure in investors, not telling them that it was scaled in inches instead of feet.

13. Reunion Tower is a 561 ft (171 m) observation tower and one of the most recognizable landmarks in Dallas.
It is the 15th tallest building in Dallas. At night, the globe at the top of the building is illuminated with 259 custom LED fixtures and are controlled by various computer-generated patterns and colors. The globe is also used for special events, such as lit green for St. Patrick's Day or blue for World Autism Day.
