2 5Emergency Response Onboard Vessels Justification Missing cargo information and documents about the Dangerous Goods carried on board; Insufficient or no training and education; The crew will not be able to foresee in detail what might occur in all emergencies such as fire on cargo tanks or in pump rooms, fire in the engine room, fire in accommodation, explosion, man overboard, collision, oil spillage etc. Lack of firefighting and life-saving equipment; Lack of procedures for handling emergency situations. 2

3 5Emergency Response Onboard Vessels Outputs 1.Regulations for Emergency Response Management on board inland waterway vessels prepared or updated. 2.Emergency Response Management on board inland waterway vessels implemented. 3.Operational training on handling emergencies conducted. 4.List of all necessary emergency equipment needed on board for vessels prepared. 5.Two pilot projects involving a shipping company/vessel operator and inspection authorities on the minimum equipment and training requirements for emergency preparedness. 3

4 5Emergency Response Onboard Vessels KEY ACTIVITIES Review exiting National and International regulations regarding emergency response for tanker, general cargo, container, passenger vessels and ferries. Prepare an implementation plan for vessels operators to comply with the requirements of Emergency Response Management. Conduct training courses for the crew regarding their ability to respond to emergencies on board vessels. Carry out a pilot project for 3-5 shipping companies / vessel operators. Carry out vessel survey and assist vessel operators in implementing the recommendations from the survey report. 4
