1 Standard Normal Distribution
OBJ: • Determine the area under the standard normal curve

2 2 Basic Properties of the Standard Normal Curve:
The standard normal curve is symmetric about 0, that is, the part of the curve to the left of the vertical line in the figure below is the mirror image of the part of the curve to the right of it. The total area under the standard normal curve is equal to 1. z

3 2 Basic Properties of the Standard Normal Curve:
The standard normal curve extends indefinitely in both directions, approaching, but never touching, the horizontal axis as it does so. • Most of the area under the standard normal curve lies between –3 and 3. z

4 Worksheet # 2 Determine the area under the standard normal curve that lies between -.56 and 0
z 1st type of problem – look up on table. Worksheet #1

5 EX: 2 Determine the area under the standard normal curve that lies to the right of .76.
z 2nd type of problem – look up on table & subtract from .5 Worksheet #3 – #5,#12 (*#4)

6 z 3rd type of problem – look up on table & add Worksheet #6, #7 EX: 3 Determine the area under the standard normal curve that lies between and 1.82

7 EX: 1 Determine the area under the standard normal curve that lies to the left of 1.23.
z 4th type of problem – look up on table & add to .5 Worksheet #9, #10

8 z 5th type of problem – look up on table & subtract Worksheet #11 Worksheet #8 Determine the area under the standard normal curve that lies between and -.92
