1 EXCEL GRAPHING *Basic Graphing Steps* by A.B. -NNHS

2 Step 1: Data Entry 1.Enter independent variable into the first column and the dependent into the second 2.If there is more than one set of data dependent data, just put it in the next column 3.Highlight the data

3 Step 2: Choosing the Scatter Graph 1. With your data highlighted, go to the “Insert” tab at the top of the page 2. Insert a Scatter graph– select the one that only has dots with no lines connecting 3. Your graph should appear

4 Step 3: Adding a Title and Axes Labels 1. With your graph selected, press the “Layout” tab at the top 2. Then Select the Chart Title Button and Axis Title button to add the title. The title should be the Dependent variable v. Independent variable. 3. Select the “Axis Titles” button to add a horizontal and vertical axis label with units in parentheses.

5 Your graph should now look something like this:

6 Step 4: Renaming the Series in the Legend 1. If you want to give your series a special name, specifically if you have more than one series on the graph, go to the top tab labeled “design” and click on the “Select Data” option

7 Step 4: Renaming the Series in the Legend 2. Click on the Edit Button 3. Type in the series name you would like to rename it….

8 Step 4: Renaming the Series in the Legend And the series should be renamed like so:

9 Step 5: Adding a Linear Trendline with an equation 1. Go to the “Layout” tab and press the trendline button. Select “More Trendline Options.”

10 Step 5: Adding a Linear Trendline with an equation 2. Make sure that Linear is selected at the top of the box (if you would like a different function, select it here). 3. At the bottom of this box, select “Display Equation on Chart” and “Display R- squared value on chart.” 3. Press Close

11 Your graph should look something like this:
