10 Why was Mary Mcleod Bethune important in history? What was she fighting for? She was fighting for education for all people, especially girls.

Denied the right to go on a mission trip to educate others, so she opened her own school so no girl could be denied an education. Needed desks & workers to build her school, so she begged for help and built desks from trash. Student denied proper health care, so she opened a hospital

Led the National Association of Colored Women’s Club Founded the National Council of Negro Women The first African American head of a federal agency Inducted in The National Women’s Hall of Fame The first woman and first African American to be recognized with a statue in Washington D.C.
