2 Terminology Tenant – a person who rents an accommodation Tenancy – legal right to occupy a rental Landlord – The person who owns the rental accommodation

3 Terminology Lease – the agreement between the tenant and the landlord that outlines things such as the rental period, cost, and what is included in the rental Month-to Month Lease – a lease that works on a monthly basis Yearly Lease – A lease that will last for an entire year

4 Terminology Sublet – renting of an apartment by a tenant to another person Assignment of Lease – an agreement that allows another person to take over an existing lease; the lease transfers to the new tenant

5 Terminology Bachelor Apartment – an apartment that consists of one room and a bathroom Utilities – the cost of bills such as heat, power, water, garbage removal, etc. Appliances – fridge, stiove, washer, dryer, dishwasher.

6 Things to know before renting an apartment What is the cost What is the length of the lease? How many bedrooms are there? Is it furnished? What appliances are included? About how much are utilities a month? Is there parking available? Are pets allowed? Is it smoking or non-smoking? Are children allowed?
