What is an Intelligent Building?

Efficient Efficient Cost Cost Energy consumption Energy consumption Self-Sustaining Self-Sustaining Nodes Nodes Sensors Sensors Networks Networks User Friendly User Friendly RFID tags RFID tags System control System control

Intelligent Building’s and the use of Nodes

Nodes and RFID Tags Sensor Nodes (a.k.a. – Motes) Sensor Nodes (a.k.a. – Motes) Measures data or it can pick up signals from RFID TagsMeasures data or it can pick up signals from RFID Tags RFID Tags RFID Tags Sends out a signal containing a code that is specific to each personSends out a signal containing a code that is specific to each person Networks Networks Series of nodes that take the information to a “sink” computerSeries of nodes that take the information to a “sink” computer Sink Computer Sink Computer Contains information specific to each personContains information specific to each person Access’s the person’s information with the “sensed” codeAccess’s the person’s information with the “sensed” code

Nodes and RFID Tags con’t… Nodes (a.k.a. – Motes): They can measure certain parameters of a room, such as, temperature, humidity, motion, ect… They can receive signals from RFID tags. They transfer the signal from node to node in a network of nodes until reaching the sink computer.

RFID Tags: These are devices that send out signals containing information. It can be either account numbers, SSN, credit info, ect… These are devices that send out signals containing information. It can be either account numbers, SSN, credit info, ect… These tags can be placed almost anywhere and can be small enough to even be implanted under the skin. They can also be in a credit card, or ID badge, or key chain. These tags can be placed almost anywhere and can be small enough to even be implanted under the skin. They can also be in a credit card, or ID badge, or key chain. They are being used today and are common, such as, EZ-Pass, Mobil SpeedPass. 9 The Possibilities: Person location will be much quicker and easier. Person location will be much quicker and easier. Hospitals will have less “accidental mix-ups” with patient charts, wrong diagnosis and perscriptions.
